How to Find Employment Opportunities in Luxembourg?

Luxembourg - May 10, 2024
Many companies in Luxembourg are actively seeking skilled professionals who meet the country's job requirements. If you have expertise in a particular field along with a university degree, it could be your chance to work and live in Luxembourg. There's a common misconception that finding employment in Luxembourg while residing outside the country is a challenging task. However, this is a misconception based on rumors spread by immigration agencies. Contrary to this belief, you can directly apply to companies and employers in Luxembourg from outside the country without the need for a lawyer or immigration agency. You can even conduct job interviews via video calls. Upon acceptance in a job interview, the process of issuing an invitation letter for your entry into Luxembourg will be handled by your employer. After receiving the invitation letter, you only need to visit the Luxembourg embassy to obtain a visa. Once you have the visa and enter Luxembourg, the residency application process can be easily pursued through correspondence and direct communication with the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs, without the need for a lawyer or immigration agency.

Pope Francis to Visit Luxembourg

Luxembourg - May 10, 2024
According to Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, the Archbishop of Luxembourg, Pope Francis is expected to visit Luxembourg before the end of the year.
In an interview with Radio Latina, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich stated that although nothing is official yet, the visit of Pope Francis to Luxembourg this year is "very, very likely." It has been known for some time that the Pope is preparing for a trip to Belgium to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the University of Louvain. It is within the framework of this visit that he will take the opportunity to visit Luxembourg.
While the dates of September 21-22 or September 28-29 have been mentioned, nothing has been confirmed yet. This trip to Belgium is official and is on the Vatican's agenda.
It is expected that Pope Francis will have a brief meeting with Grand Duke Henri during his visit to Luxembourg.

Luxembourg Prime Minister: We Must Respect Other Countries' Decisions on Nuclear Energy

Luxembourg - May 10, 2024
Prime Minister Luc Frieden announced in a public session of the parliament that the government believes we should accept and respect the decisions of other countries regarding nuclear energy.
The Luxembourg government does not intend to build a nuclear power plant in Luxembourg; instead, it advocates for renewable energies and the decommissioning of old nuclear power plants in neighboring countries.
The Prime Minister stated that it is a reality and we must consider that many European countries, like others in Scandinavia, have very strong governments and different political majorities pursuing other avenues. It's essential for us in Luxembourg to acknowledge these realities. The government supports and invests in renewable energies. However, as a small country producing only 16% of its energy, we must refrain from reproaching neighboring countries with their nuclear power plants.
On the other hand, the proposed Déi Lénk Amendment aimed at ensuring the non-allocation of the European budget to nuclear energy was rejected by members of the European Parliament.

Teacher Training Soon in the South and in French

Luxembourg - May 10, 2024

Until now, teacher training could only be pursued in the cities of Mersch and Luxembourg with Luxembourgish as the language of instruction. According to announcements from the Ministry of Education, the Bel-Val High School will offer a complete teacher training course entirely in French starting from the academic year 2025/2026, meaning from September of this year, for approximately fifty students.
For the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg, it was important that "French-speaking students not be excluded from this training as they require it for various educational professions."
According to the ministry, with these new proposals, training capacities for interested parties could increase by up to 50%. The technical high school for educational and social professions in Mersch must also accommodate an increasing number of students in the short and medium term.

International Transportation Giant Uber Launches in Luxembourg

Luxembourg - May 10, 2024

Starting from mid-June, it will be possible to directly book taxis via the Uber app in Luxembourg.
When traveling outside Luxembourg, it's often a reflex to wonder why Uber is used for point-to-point transportation everywhere in Europe except in Luxembourg. Until now, this option has been absent in Luxembourg, but it seems that the taxi transportation market is about to become more competitive as taxi companies strive to attract more customers, now that we have a new internationally recognized platform here.
Moreover, this presents an opportunity for price competition. We're aware of how expensive taxis can be in Luxembourg, prices that are unaffected by government intervention. Uber's entry could change the landscape.
While there were already several taxi platforms before Uber's arrival, they weren't truly familiar to visitors. Uber is poised to attract more customers, potentially influencing prices.
