Pirate Party of Luxembourg Supports Toomaj Salehi and Four Other Prisoners

Following the letter sent by the SIMOURQ Association last week to governmental bodies, ministries, and political parties in Luxembourg urging them to take a firm and determined stance in support of prisoners' rights, especially regarding the unjust sentencing of Toomaj Salehi to death, and to collaborate with other countries and international organizations to exert necessary pressure to create a space of justice and fairness concerning unfair trials, the Pirates of Luxembourg were the first group to respond to this call and letter.
In a written response to the SIMOURQ Association's letter, members of the Pirate Party expressed their deep concern and regret for the intervention and rescue of Toomaj Salehi, an Iranian rap singer and songwriter who has recently been unjustly sentenced to death, and provided a copy of the letter they had sent to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Brussels to the SIMOURQ Association.

In the letter sent by the Pirate Party to the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the address of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Brussels, it is stated:
"No regime succeeds in suppressing legitimate democratic aspirations, which are part of the fundamental rights of humanity. The fact that Iranian authorities are seeking blatantly unfair trials against many of their citizens who have been caught in the aftermath of the uprising that has engulfed the country since mid-September 2022, seeking executions, is unacceptable. The latest example is Toomaj Salehi, a rap singer.
Toomaj Salehi is an artist who was initially imprisoned for protesting the repressive policies of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and then transferred to Isfahan Prison under unfavorable conditions on baseless charges awaiting execution. Mr. Salehi, like many before him, has been unable to benefit from a fair trial.
The Pirate Party stands alongside the people of Iran and with experts from the United Nations, including the Special Committee on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, who have called for the immediate release of Mr. Salehi.
We also remind you, Mr. Judiciary official, that members of the Pirate Party have always called for the immediate abolition of all convictions and death sentences. We once again urge you to release all those who have been detained for exercising their right to freedom of expression, assembly, and peaceful assembly, including Mr. Toomaj Salehi, Arian Farzamnia, Amir Mohammad Jafari, Amin Mahdi Shokrollahi, and Ali Younesi. Finally, we want prisoners to be allowed to meet with their families and chosen lawyers, to be protected from torture and ill-treatment, and to investigate allegations of torture."
The Pirate Party's response underscores a growing international outcry against the unjust treatment of individuals like Toomaj Salehi and highlights the importance of collective action in advocating for human rights and justice.

Police Warning Regarding New Method of Theft

When it comes to perpetrating wrongdoing, the ingenuity of criminals knows no bounds. Luxembourg police have issued a warning about a new method being employed by burglars before carrying out thefts.
Burglars are now using very fine threads or adhesive tape to ascertain whether residents are at home or not. These barely visible threads or tapes are strategically placed in the bottom corner of apartment entrance doors prior to the burglary.
This method serves as a means to gauge the presence of residents at the premises. If the threads or tapes are disturbed or severed, burglars deduce that someone has entered or exited the apartment. Conversely, if the threads or tapes remain intact, it indicates that the residents may be absent, presenting an opportune time for theft.
Police emphasize the importance of citizens promptly reporting the discovery of such threads or tapes on their own or neighbors' doorsteps to the police center at 113. Vigilance and swift action are essential in thwarting potential criminal activities and ensuring community safety.
